In 2016, EVI once again served as Executive Producer for the David Foster Foundation Miracle Gala and Concert. The EVI team collaborated with Foundation President and CEO Michael Ravenhill on the annual fundraising event that rotates between major Canadian cities. This year took the team to Winnipeg, Manitoba and the MTS Center…home of the NHL Winnipeg Jets!
The Who’s Who of Canadian business and government turned out, raising 3.2 million dollars for families of children in need of organ transplants. Attendees were treated to an elegant cocktail reception and dinner, enjoyed the Foster Foundation Humanitarian Awards, and were reminded of the gravity of the occasion as a family sponsored by the Foundation expressed thanks and paid tribute by giving a first-hand account of their emotional story. The audience then participated in a variety of fundraising activities including the popular “Sponsor a Family” and the famous Foster Foundation auction! For the third consecutive year, the proceedings were masterfully hosted by CNN News Anchor Michaela Pereira.
With the fundraising mission accomplished, the evening was capped off with a spectacular concert under the direction of the Hitman himself, 16-time Grammy winning producer, composer, arranger David Foster. The stars always come out to support Foster and his foundation, and this year was no exception. Headlining the cast were Seal, Michael Bolton, Carly Rae Jepsen, The Tenors and Jackie Evancho.
The evening started with Jackie Evancho and the Tenors wowing the crowd with their classic voices and interpretations of classic repertoire.
Carly Rae Jepsen got the audience on their feet with a string of her chart topping pop hits.
Sinbad, an annual performer at the Gala, provided exceptional comic relief in his brilliantly improvised style.
When the music resumed, Michael Bolton’s talents were on abundant display as he performed hits from his Foster-produced record “Timeless, The Classics”.
A highlight of the evening was a thrilling duet with Seal and Michael Bolton belting out Foster’s stirring arrangement of “When a Man Loves a Woman” coupled with “It’s a Man’s World”.
With all of that setting the stage, Seal raised the rafters in the way that he is uniquely capable of, performing a collection of his most cherished songs.
As an encore, all of the performers joined as one for a stirring rendition of Seal’s hit “Crazy”.
The Foster Foundation Miracle Gala’s and Concerts are one of Canada’s most anticipated black tie affairs each year. Over the years, in an outpouring of generosity, more than $35 million have been raised. EVI is proud to support longtime friend and partner David Foster and his magnificent organization.
